Gear List

The stuff I use

I spend my free time testing hobby tools relentlessly, I Print, I Paint, I Craft and I file Youtube Video. In the last 5 years I have learnt a few things and so the list below are the actual things I use for my hobby. I use them, I love the I recommend them. All the links are affiliate links that will help support the channel at no extra cost to you but most of all I hope they help.

Much love James

Painting

If you paint minis, this is the good stuff

Kimera Kolors

kimera_kolors

Kimera Kolors

These are my go to paints, simple as that, I own almost all of them but if you are starting out grab the base set and from there learn the real joy that comes from crazy saturated paints and mixing your own tones.

Kimera Kolors are professional quality artist paints which are extremely pigment rich, sometimes as much as 50% pigment. Their base set consits of single pigment paints only which means you will get expected results when mixing paints.

Golden

golden_high_flow

Golden High Flow Acrylics

These high flow acrylic paints by Golden are a great addition to any painter’s arsenal. They spray through the airbrush beautifully. They do tend to dry a bit glossy so make sure to pick up some matte varnish if you prefer a flat finish.

Amazon UK: Golden High Flow Acrylics

golden_heavy_body

Golden Heavy Body Acrylics

Golden Heavy Body Acrylics are artist quality acrylics with a high pigment load and bigger tubes than what we normally see in miniature paint brands. They have a thicker consistency but thin out beautifully, same as their high flow counterparts they dry glossy as well.

Redgrass Games

studio_xl_v2

Studio XL V2 with add on accessories

This is my main wet palette and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love everything about it. The sponge holds an amazing amount of water, the paper feels amazing and doesn’t tear, the seal keeps my paint usable and my favorite part is the size! I can mix paints to my heart’s content.

studio_xl_hydrations_sheets

Studio XL Hydration Sheets

As mentioned above these papers or hydration sheets as they are called are amazing. They seem to let the perfect amount of moisture through and are very resistant. I have used papers in the past that tear when mixing paints, these are not that, I can mix paint for days and they still feel like new.

redgrass_glass_palette

Redgrass Glass Palette

If you are using oils or just prefer a dry palette this is a game changer. The brush just glides on top of it and it makes mixing paints a breeze. It super simple to clean up as well, you can’t go wrong with this.

Redgrass Games: Redgrass Glass Palette

redgrass_cutting_mat

Double-Sided Cutting & Painting Mat

This is the best cutting mat for miniature painters on the market hands down. It has a lot of features printed onto it designed specifically for our hobby such as: a color wheel, a round and square base checkers, paint consistency recipes and two rulers in inches and centimeters for quick measuring. Can’t recommend it enough.

SmallRig Brackets and Mounts

These are the best camera accessory mount I have tried hands down. They make it super simple to attach external monitors, portable led video lights, and pretty much any other threaded camera accessory you can think of.

Awesome all-around microphone. It has four pickup patterns: Flexible cardioid, omni, bidirectional, and stereo which allow you to record in ways that would normally require multiple mics, for vocals, instruments and podcasts. This is an essential part of my gear.
